Development
We wanted a nice-looking, cheerful but easy-to-use alarm clock, even simpler than the default one. So, we made several custom UI controls and appropriate animations.
Early was imagined as a simple app with only a few screens. Due to Apple’s restrictions for third-party alarms, we had to create a lot of notification messages and explanations, degrading the user experience. We had to start with the user flow predicting all possible issues a user might face.
Discussing the app’s UX with Apple experts at WWDC16, we got invaluable insights that gave us ideas for improvements. We also realized how important localization would be, and now with 7 languages, we cover almost half of the world.
As we were already experts in Objective-C, Early is its child. The project grew and we happily adopted new technologies, so iMessage extension and stickers were created with Swift.
We wanted an app that’s not only beautiful but also functional and would wake up users, so we created 9 different games, all written in simple and lightweight SpriteKit. The best-sellers among the games turned out to be the classics – Tetris, Snake, and Tennis.
Early has been featured by the App Store in the “New Apps We Love” section in more than 20 countries all over the world. Together with the positive reviews from our users, this makes our work worthwhile.
